Comments

This test screens for antibody to HIV 1 and HIV 2.

  • Seronegative samples will be pooled for HIV RNA testing.  Final results will not be reported until pooled HIV RNA testing is completed.
  • Initially-positive tests are repeated in duplicate. Repeat-positive tests are confirmed for HIV 1 by Western Blot (WB) (reflex test) before being reported as Positive. Western Blot tests are performed on Thursdays, and generally reported on the following day. Following physician consultation, repeat-positive tests which are negative by WB may be submitted to a reference laboratory (ARUP) for HIV 2 confirmatory testing.
Consent FormsAs of January 1, 2008 HIV consent forms are no longer required.
See attached policy: Requesting Human Immunodeficiency Virus(HIV) Antibody or Antigen Testing.
