CommentsIdeally specimens should be delivered to the laboratory within 1 hour of collection.  For longer transport times, specimen must be refrigerated.

*A maximum of three specimens, collected at no less than 8 hour intervals (at least one in the early morning) will be accepted for culture.  Physicians will be notified of duplicate specimens.  Subsequent specimens submitted after a bronchoscopy or after therapy is initiated will be accepted. 
**Please note on requisition if/which bronchoscopy specimens can be combined for AFB culture.
